Born in 1958 in Surrey, England Philip Jakob has been active in liturgical music since 1973. A music graduate of Hull University he studied organ with the virtuoso Stephen Hicks and toured throughout France, Belgium and Holland as soloist/accompanist.

Philip taught music in a Jesuit High School in North London before taking up the post of Director of Music for the Cathedral and Diocese of Hallam in 1994. A frequent speaker at liturgical conferences Philip became a Member of the Iona Community in 2004.

Philip emigrated to Tampa, USA in 2014 where he is now Director of Music at Sacred Heart (Franciscans) in downtown Tampa.

A published composer (OCP, Decani Music) Philip has recently completed lyric settings of the entire 3-year cycle of Sunday psalms in the Abbey translation.
