Fr. Ross Caniglia is from Council Bluffs, Iowa. Taking after his mother, who played piano through much of her childhood, Fr. Ross started playing piano in 3rd grade and continued lessons through college at Creighton University in Omaha, NE. An aspiring meteorologist, Fr. Ross graduated from Creighton with a B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences and minor in Mathematics in 2010. His career pursuits took him to Sioux City, IA, where he worked as an on-camera meteorologist for KTIV, the NBC affiliate there. While in Sioux City, Fr. Ross became active in music ministry at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He played weekly for Sunday liturgies, for both the choir and solo cantors. It was during his time in Sioux City when Fr. Ross felt an increasing call towards the priesthood. In the fall of 2013, he attended St. Meinrad Seminary, where he earned a Masters in Catholic Philosophical Studies, along with a Masters of Divinity. In the midst of his discernment, Fr. Ross remained very active in assisting with liturgical music at the seminary. He played annually for the school’s Lenten and Advent services, and frequently helped play for Masses in the seminary’s chapel. During his last two years of formation, Fr. Ross was assigned to lead the school’s Spanish choir, selecting music weekly, writing instrumental parts for brass and woodwind instruments, as well as playing piano for each liturgy. Fr. Ross was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Sioux City on June 1, 2019. He is excited to serve the faithful in the diocese and feels blessed to be able to use his musical talents in anyway that will glorify God.
